Support brain research

Redirect 2% of your income tax, if you work in Romania! It doesn't cost you anything, but it will help us a lot. Download form 230 and send it to your local fiscal administration in Romania by post, online or personally at the counter.

To whom you donate

The Transylvanian Institute of Neuroscience (TINS) is the first Systems Neuroscience research institute in Romania. Most TINS neuroscientists have returned to Romania after spending various periods abroad, in well-known research centres throughout the world. They have returned to Romania in order to consolidate neuroscience research in their home country. Our scientists investigate how neural circuits give rise to visual perception (seeing), olfactory perception (smelling), how they contribute to consciousness and how they produce behavior. In addition, we struggle to understand what happens with these circuits in various brain pathologies, such as schyzophrenia, alcohol addiction, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

How your money will be used

The 2% of your income tax will be redirected to our institute by the Romanian fiscal administration. These funds will be used to:

  1. Fund research projects at TINS that span from studying the visual system to investigating the mechanisms of various brain pathologies.

  2. Support the participation of TINS students and scientists to international, prestigious conferences (e.g., SfN, CNS, ECVP, NIPS).

  3. Fund the Transylvanian Experimental Neuroscience Summer School (TENSS –, which has become the most visible training event in neurosciences across Europe. TENSS typically receives more than 120 applications from about 40 countries across 6 continents. TENSS happens yearly, at Pike Lake, in Transylvania, through the effort of enthusiastic neuroscientists. More details:

  4. Cover part the administrative expenses (spaces, electricity, heating) that are necessary for the functioning of TINS. The institute offers its scientists and students high-performance labs (neurophysiology, optical imaging, optogenetics), generous office space, a library, and lecture rooms.
